It must be a dream!

This afternoon I was taking a walk along a path in a favorite park, when suddenly a monarch butterfly began following me. I remembered the one I saw a couple of weeks ago in Wisconsin and decided to photograph this one.

Monarch butterflies are considered the king of butterflies, hence their name. During one year’s time there are four generations, the first three living about 2 to 6 weeks. This one, born in June, would be a second generation.

Members of the fourth generation, born toward fall, migrate to warmer places like California, living 6-8 months until time to fly north and lay their eggs for the new cycle.
